Castel Del Monte is an unique castle, unlike any other castle I've seen. Its octagonal shape make it one of a kind and thats probably why its on UNESCO's list. Castel Del Monte was build by Frederick II who was a Holy Roman Emperor and King of Sicily in the Middle Ages. Frederick was responsible for the construction of many castles in Apulia, but Castel del Monte's geometric design is unique.
Castel Del Monte is most impressive from the outside, the exhibition within the Castle isn't that impressive and information about Frederick II isn't really given. In high season it is not allowed to drive up to the castle, use one of the many paid parking spots on the main road.
