Earthquakes destroyed half of Craco around 1950, leaving just 1.800 people living in the village. But they had to leave Craco in 1963 making it an incredible ghost town, houses ript apart or barely standing. At first it was open to public, now an admission needs to be paid and entrance is only under guided supervision. But its well worth it!
Admission is €10,- and a guide will accompany you on the tour. Some speak English others don't. In high season it is possible to get an English speaking guide at additional costs.
