For a time Siracusa (or Syracuse) was the largest and most important city in ancient Greece, it was also the capital of Sicily. The historical center is adorned with a beautiful style but even more fun are the little streets where buildings are so close together that the sun barely hits the streets. Take a few hours to walk around, see the cathedral, castle and city walls that have been erected along the sea.
Only the old part of Siracusa is worth visiting, the new part of the city (not the Island) is a bit ugly and without real highlights. Parking is easier here though, and walk into the old town.
